Wuhan University (WHU), one of China's Top 10 universities, traces its origins back to the late Qing Dynasty. As a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education, WHU is a proud recipient of full support from both central and local governments under "Project 211" and "Project 985." It is also among the first institutions selected for China’s "Double First-Class" initiative. To date, WHU has established partnerships with over 300 universities and research institutions across 53 countries and regions.
The Chinese Antarctic Center of Surveying and Mapping (CACSM) at Wuhan University is a specialized institute responsible for Chinese national polar surveying and mapping efforts. It comprises five key divisions: Polar Geodesy and Geodynamics, Geophysics, Polar Environment Remote Sensing, Digital Antarctica and GIS, and Polar Policy Research. Since the 1st Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE) in 1984, CACSM has participated in 41 Antarctic expeditions and 18 Arctic expeditions, totally more than 200 person-times. In recognition of its outstanding contributions to national polar expeditions, CACSM has been honored with prestigious awards, including the China Youth May 4th Medal.
